The last three hours of the day had been a complete blur. Thad remembered coming back from the lunch, going to his locker to switch classes when he saw Brodie Aldwyn and Wayde Manfield bullying some random girl. He remembered putting his books back INTO his locker and walking over to them, trying to get them to let her go. Obviously, he hadn't done in it the exact best way, because he had sort of insulted the two of them, but... er... you know, whatever. In fact, he'd almost gotten into a fight with Brodie, but Wayde stopped him. No, Wayde wasn't just being nice. As Thad walked off, Wayde initiated a fight - tonight, at 11PM, they were to meet at the designated street and have it out. And that's where the memories stopped. That's where he wondered off to class, feeling so brave and so scared sh1tless at the same time. He took a tardy and sat through the next class, and then the one after that, not listening at all [as usual].
No, he'd been thinking. Actually more like stewing. Stewing over the fact that he was going to get KILLED tonight. It wasn't an exaggeration, either. He could just imagine himself already, trying oh-so-hard to make a bruise on the muscular, intimidating Wayde but instead barely making him sore at all. He could fight with some people, but not with someone like Wayde. With Wayde, he had no competition, and it was painfully obvious. After the bell rang, he walked slowly home in a complete daze. He stumbled past people, waved at friends though he wasn't really paying attention. What was he going to do tonight? He couldn't bring any friends to help him out, and he couldn't bring weapons either. Even if weapons had been allowed, he wouldn't have brought one, for the simple reason that he would never be able to harm anyone that way, not with anything so dangerous.
He'd thought about not showing up. It was a doomed thought. If he didn't show up, something even worse would happen. He'd already been warned. If he told someone, like a teacher or his parents, he might stall for time for a little while, but eventually he'd just get hurt even worse by Wayde. There was no escaping the 11PM meeting. He was going to die, he was sure of it. And if he didn't die, he was at least going to be severely injured. There was no way to be optimistic about this situation.
His hands shook softly as he walked down the street, towards his house. People gave him funny looks. Apparently they could sense that something was wrong by his face. He didn't really notice, in fact he wasn't even aware of his surroundings... until he tripped. "F--k!" he yelled out, tumbling to the ground for a split second before he pushed himself back up with the palms of his hands. He turned around angrily to get a look at the culprit, finding... Brodie. Just the person he needed to see. "Oh. It's you." His face turned from angry to passive, drained of all its color. He didn't need to start anything else.

Its too late to go.
She said automatically as she realized she had just apologized to Thad of all people, that was strange. Very strange. She looked at him as he pushed himself up from off the pavement and took another drag of her cigarette. "Don't go tonight. Whatever he said don't go." She told him calmly, almost emotionally as she gave him a look that said it all. Deep down Brodie was half frightened of Wayde when he was in a mad mood, once he was started he wouldn't stop and that was what scared her. "Trust me, and I know thats big coming from me. But. Don't go." She hated to think what might happen to him if he did. The prospect was scary on its own. [/blockquote][/ul]

It was almost like slow motion, what happened next. Thad could see the words forming on Brodie's lips, but even after they came out, he couldn't believe what he'd heard. Sorry? Sorry? Really. That was one of the oddest things he had ever heard, especially coming from the girl who had just hit him [and pretty hard, I might add] a couple of hours before. It was natural for him to glance slightly around, just to make sure the words hadn't come from a different mouth, even though he was certain they'd come from Brodie's mouth.
And it was even more odd that she didn't just look away after that, or trip him again. Actually, she kept talking. Was she warning him? Did she not want him to be positively murdered tonight? You know, it almost sounded like she didn't. He stared at her from a few minutes and blinked his brown eyes, pondering on how to answer. He was speechless. Almost.
"What's this? Are you actually afraid that I might get hurt tonight, Brodie? Huh?" he asked, his tone as icy as ever. It was so icy that it was scary, honestly, and he ended up slumping slightly and eyeing the girl half-way apologetically. He sighed slightly, hopelessly.
"And what do you propose I do?" His voice had gone from icy to defeated and soft. "Not go and get my butt kicked even worse tomorrow? No. I'd rather just get it over while I can, right?" He laughed hollowly. He probably sounded like such an idiot right now, but he didn't care. None of it would matter, come tomorrow.

Take the place. She told him, after all she could handle herself right, she would be able to convince Wayde that Thad wasn't really all that to get so worked up about. After all she could do that couldn't she. She wasn't that afraid of Wayde to stand up to him sometimes right? She had to do something. "Look I know we don't always see eye to eye...and I know we fight...or rather I fight but still...Wayde. when he gets really pissed off...can do some cray shit. I don't want to see you get killed." She said sincerely as she looked up at the sky form her spot on the pavement. A quick glance she looked at him as she sighed. "I'll think of something."[/blockquote][/ul]

Looking at Brodie just confused Thad. In fact, he actually felt a little... sad, even guilty. The look on her face made his icy heart thaw out a little. Then, when he THOUGHT that he might feel guilty, he just got angry at himself because there was no reason he needed to feel that way. She deserved to feel bad for what she had done for him and what was going to happen in a few hours. In fact, he should have been hoping right now that she did feel bad, so bad that she wanted to go jump off a bridge or something. He should have... but he wasn't.
He fiddled with his hands nervously, which were stuffed in his hoodie pockets. "Don't be absurd," he said with a scoff, as if she really was talking words of insanity. Really, maybe she wasn't, because she was probably the closest friend or even known person he had, but still. He didn't think that anyone would be able to convince the guy not to do some serious damage - he had been extremely angry earlier, and his plans seemed set in stone already. "I'll tell you what. If you want to help out, when I'm not at school tomorrow, I'll most likely be dead and you can call an ambulance for me, okay?"
He grinned slightly, 'cept it wasn't a joking grin. It was more of a, 'I'm so dazed that I'm practically going insane' sort of grin. In a way, he had been going insane in the past few hours, thinking of everything he might be able to do in order to save himself, and wondering who was going to actually cry when they found out he was gone. Seriously, he'd actually been obsessing over whether he should make a will or not, giving his room and stuff to his little sister or something an his CDs to his friends.
"Listen... I really appreciate you trying to help me, but I don't have much of a choice. There's not sense in you trying to help me or anything. I've actually come to terms with most of this." Listen to that! He already sounded like some guy on his deathbed...

Take the fall. She began quietly. "I'm sorry." Apologies weren't something that came very often from Brodie, hell would rather freeze over. There was that look on his face, like he had accepted all this already, Brodie hated that look. It was like he was giving up before the fight had started. Though she knew why he would give up, Wayde was a good fighter, even Brodie was no match for him. "Thad...promise me you you will be careful..." That was all she could say. She knew she couldn't stop him turning up if he really wanted to, she would rather he didn't but she couldn't stop him. She just wished this whole mess hadn't started. Why had it started? Brodie couldn't quite remember. [/blockquote][/ul]
